Stories of generosity

Giving close to home and heart in the Barossa

Foundation Barossa community members planting a tree in memory of Fran Clancy

For many people, giving is deeply personal. It’s shaped by a love of place, by memory, and by a desire to support the causes that matter most, not just today, but well into the future.

For families choosing to give through Foundation Barossa, that generosity becomes a lasting investment in the region’s community.

Fran Clancy was a deeply engaged member of the Barossa community, generous with her time, her talents and her compassion and was an early Board member for Foundation Barossa. Over many years, she supported a wide range of charitable causes and was particularly committed to helping young people overcome barriers to opportunity.

When Fran sadly passed from cancer in November 2022, her late husband Paul bequest funds in her honour to Foundation Barossa and, together, they established the Fran Clancy Memorial Scholarship.

A scholarship in her name was Paul’s way of ensuring her values continue to shape lives long after her passing, through arts, education and community.

“This scholarship will ensure a lasting legacy in memory of Fran. It will enable young Barossa people with a barrier to study in the arts, all areas that Fran was very passionate about.” — Amy Heinicke, Chair, Foundation Barossa

For Paul, working with Foundation Barossa provided confidence that “Francie’s” legacy would be honoured with care, purpose and integrity. Rather than making a one-off gift, the scholarship has been structured to give in perpetuity, creating opportunities for Barossa young people year after year.

That impact is already being felt. The inaugural recipient of the Fran Clancy Memorial Scholarship is now closer to transforming a love of art and teaching into a career supporting students in local schools. It is a powerful reminder that thoughtful giving can ripple forward in ways the original donor may never witness but would wholeheartedly support.

Foundation Barossa exists to make this kind of giving possible. Through its long-term community fund, the Foundation helps donors leave bequests, create memorial gifts and support causes close to home and heart, while ensuring funds are managed responsibly for lasting community benefit.

This SA Giving Week, stories like Fran’s are a reminder that generosity, grounded in place and purpose, can endure far beyond a lifetime.
